The purpose of all operations of The Moscow State Circus is to provide entertainment and learning for visitors to the circus, whether these are for Corporate Business Functions or Public Events. The Moscow State Circus believes that all of the circus events are part of the historic traditions of the open spaces in which we operate.
All circus events shall be staged with due regard to the aim of Sustainable Development; the company shall seek to preserve natural resources and protect the environment. We will work with local communities, venue owners, local councils, and land owners to minimise the impact of the performances and achieve our sustainable goals.
The aim and intention of The Moscow State Circus is to use local suppliers of materials and to share the economic benefits of the circus project throughout the supply chain, adding to the local economy in the area in which the event is staged. We will use local crew and suppliers wherever possible and encourage all of our traders and operators to do the same.
The Moscow State Circus has set the ambitious targets of reducing environmental impacts of each circus event by 30% by October 2017, 50% by October 2018, 75% by October 2019, and 100% reduction by 2020.
Most Circus venues require generators to provide power for equipment and these shall be made more efficient as a priority. Circus events often require heaters and these shall be made carbon neutral as a priority with the phasing in of Bio Fuel as research makes this achievable.
The Moscow State Circus affirms that this policy shall be successful only if it is fully understood and accepted by the Company Directors, Senior Management, and by key staff members.
Transport
The extensive transport of The Moscow State Circus heavy goods trucks where achievable will run on Bio Diesel. Any Bio Diesel used by The Moscow State Circus is supplied from a United Kingdom supplier.
During shows we will encourage visitors to use public transport to minimise pollution. This will also help to protect the natural environment by reducing damage to land.
Electricity
Generators normally running from 7am until midnight only. Electricity at other times is from storage, including rechargeable batteries. The Moscow State Circus always plans how we will use electricity in advance, ensuring we have a sustainable plan in place.
Environmental impact of domestic dwellings on site including staff and artist accommodation:
As well as being a business, The Moscow State Circus is also a living place. Each accommodation unit at the Circus as it tours may be considered a “household”.
In comparison with a fixed dwelling, a recent survey has shown the far lighter environmental impact of a caravan dwelling family against the impact on resources of a similar family living in a house; caravans are mobile, compact and heated easier, they also use far less water and electricity. The circus way of life is inherently environmentally friendly.
The infrastructure we use every year is permanent or reusable, keeping waste to a minimum and reducing the impact on the environment.
Accommodation Water Usage
Average water use is 4 gallons/17.8 litres per person per day, including drinking, washing, and toilet use. Again we plan the use of resources carefully, working to keep waste to a minimum.
Recycling
The Moscow State Circus works to minimise waste through off-site recycling. We provide suitable facilities for visitors, traders and operators to recycle their waste. All site waste will be sorted off-site, dividing recyclable and non-recyclable materials. Cooking oil will be recycled, being transformed into bio-fuel.
